“The Ranch”
How we got started...
In March of 2013 I was blessed enough to find myself in a purchase agreement of the property. The vision at first was just to have space, ranch some cattle, experience the outdoors of south Texas and have a place to hunt open range deer, hogs, etc.
The first 2 years, I spent most of my time cleaning up brush and bringing the ranch back to working order. In the Spring of 2016, I decided to add a high fence due to wild hogs tearing up the property.
Once the hogs were gone, I decided to add game
animals. I first brought in free ranging Axis in July of 2016, then in the Fall, I found a certified Whitetail breeder and purchased 6 does and one breeder buck (all certified and CWD free). The following Spring I purchased 4 more certified Whitetail does which were carrying fawns.
Over the next few years, it was just sit and watch the
herds grow enough to start offering game hunts. During the buildup time I added feeders, box blinds, over 7,000 feet of water lines and built 2 new water tanks to support the herds. I have also been able to work with the local veterinary hospital to be able dart and provide medicine to the animals. I take pride in ensuring the herds stay healthy and are all provided with food plots and supplement feeding. I have since added a few different exotic animals. I have built a rifle range for sighting in rifles and continue to make improvements on the range. I am also working on completing a bunkhouse, cleaning shed with full amenities, along with full camper hook ups.
In April of 2021, the ranch took a direct hit by an EF1 tornado. There was no loss of life or injuries. We suffered severe damage to some of the buildings, deer blinds, feeders, and lost some of the trees but the herd survived with no losses. We are currently in the process of rebuilding our home, making improvements on the ranch, and bringing things back to normal. We are still able to provide you with
a memorable, quality hunt with quality animals. We look forward to completing the improvements soon to provide more services for your hunting experience.
How the Ranch Got Its Name
While establishing our LLC ranch name, a tornado gave a
helping hand. During the storm, one of the buildings was torn out of the ground. The next day we found an I beam (roof support) over 100 yards from where the building was located. The 4" x 25’ I beam was bent in a U shape form with one of the ends twisted like a corkscrew. So, it was decided to call the ranch the “Twisted Bar Ranch, LLC".

A message from the Ranch Owner
"Drake"
I have over 30 years of experience managing wildlife. I have hunted big game all over North America. The value of wildlife and respect I have for the animals is key to my success. My goal is to provide a quality game harvest along with a quality hunt.
Originally from Northern Michigan I was raised in the back country of Michigan's Upper Peninsula (UP) where my father was a game biologist for the federal government. At an early age, I spent a lot of time hunting and fishing. Growing up in the outdoors, I started hunting small game, then eventually moved on to big game. I have had my share of mistakes and missed shots, but every time was a learning experience. By the time I was in my early teens I started a trap line. This experience led me to learn tracking and animal habits. Eventually this led to a seasonal job locating wounded game for other hunters.
Living on the Twisted Bar Ranch adds to the experience of managing wildlife. I can monitor the seasonal and daily habits of the animals.
Our ranch is small and the guided hunts are limited each year to maintain a quality herd and control.
I welcome families to share a hunting experience on the ranch. There is nothing more rewarding than to see the look on a young hunter's face when they harvest their first big game animal...PRICELESS!
